A new tournament format I have been thinking of:
- 18 tourns per year - S-elimination format (to need less time) - 12 tourns of 8 players (+-18 days of durat.). - 6 tourns of 16 players (+-24 days of durat.). - A ranking based on the points of the last 365/6 days. - Qualys if more than 8/16 players for the non-16 top seeds. Qs would be played before teh tourn starts so a person that is currently playing the previous tourn is not allowed to play the next tourn if he/she would have to play the Qs.
- Points given: ->16 players tourns: W 600 pt F 360 pt SF 180 pt QF 90 pt R16 15 pt Qual2/1/no Qual 5/0/0 pt Qual 1/no Qual 0 pts ->8 players tourns: W 250 pt F 160 pt SF 80 pt QF 10 pt Qual2/1/no Qual 3/0/0 pt Qual 1/no Qual 0 pts
- Rankings updated each week. A tourn will use seedings according to teh ranking that is in force when the tourn starts. - ONLY the best 3 tourns of 16 players and the best 4 of 8 players will count for the rankings (to avoid having a better/worse ranking becouse of teh number of tourns played). - Order of teh tourns during the season (p=players): 8p-16p-8p-8p-16p-8p-8p-16p... in sort 2 of 8 players and tehn 1 of 16 players.
Maybe to start teh next year if you guys like it. More or less something like this to give the tournamnets more relevance.

Two problems:
1) We struggle to get even a solid 8, and then it's often covered with people that are often inactive.
2) We don't even get 1 tourney done a month. =P Though I suppose Single-Elimination would speed that up.

With the rankings adding more people will want to play and people will be more motivated I suppose, and Atq or even Smogon people may came if we talk tehm about this. Atq get easily 32 players, including people from 2k10 or Smogon for instance.
And to start the tour if there are only six for instance, byes can be used until more people came on next tourns. S-E format has about half the rounds of a D-E one, so if we can finish a D in 35-40 days, a S one can be done in 20 days. And deadlines will be used seriously, like in Smogon or Atq, with DQs.
Just about teh idea, what do you think, do u think is it viable and positive for the site?

Please, do not reply all at the same time because it is impossible to understand...
Also, I have some minor changes:
All round of each tournament would last 1 week => A year has 52 weeks.
10 tourns of 8 players and 250 points (10 tourns x 3 rounds/tourn = 30 rounds (30 weeks), being 5 of them countable for the rankings.
4 tourns of 16 players and 600 points (4 tourns x 4 rounds/tourn = 16 rounds (16 weeks), being 3 of them countable for the rankings.
The finals that would last 6 weeks, in which the top 8 of the year would participate (or the first top 8 that is willing / able to play). A 2-group round robin for the first round (lasts 2 weeks), and a D-E tourn for the last 4 players (about a month, enough isn't it).
Winner = 750 2nd = 500 3rd = 300 4th = 150 * 50 extra points for each matchup you win in the RR (for the eight players)
Oh, and all matchups are the best 2 of 3, but the final round that could be the best 3 of 5.
And remember I said that the tourns have S-E format (all but the RBY tour finals of 750 pts).
The order of the tournaments:
T-250 T-250 T-600 T-250 T-250 T-600 T-250 T-250 T-600 T-250 T-250 T-600 T-250 T-250 Finals-750+.
And now... what do you think?

I think people will consider it more if our community has a major bloom again. Right now we can barely get an 8-man tournament done.

If smogon or atq people are told of this they may be interested. Or at least some of them. The main thing is if the people that currently are in 2k10 like a system like that or prefer our current quiet system.
