Hi guys, following the ranking discussion (http://www.rby2k10.proboards.com/thread/1920/ou-rankings-2014?page=2&scrollTo=14709), I'd like to create a tournament to test the impact of each pokemon to the game. The rules are simple: 1) For this time, Wrap and trapping moves are banned. 2) Banned Pokemon: Mew, Mewtwo. Banned Moves: Double Team, Fissure, Guillotine, Horn Drill, Minimize. Freeze Clause, Sleep Clause, Species Clause. 3) You have 100$ to buy a team (of 6), at those prices: tauros 24$ snorlax 22$ chansey 20$ Exeggutor 18$ Alakazam 15$ Starmie 13$ Lapras 12$ Rhydon 10$ Golem 10$ Zapdos 9$ Gengar 9$ Slowbro 9$ Jynx 8$ Persian 8$ Jolteon 8$ articuno 7$ Cloyster 7$ Hypno 7$ Victrebeel 7$ other 6$ 4) Round-robin, 5 games against each opponent Obviously you can change what you want, remaining below 100$. You don't need to play the games on the same day. Players are invited to play in the RBYNW 1Z - OU tier on the Pokemon Perfect RBY server. Looking closely, you'll have to change something, but the teams are not destroyed by this restriction, and diversity is guaranteed. You can sacrifice one of the big 4, and use 6 top ones, or just stick with the really best and use something low. Sign up: Players can be added at any time. 1- marcoasd (20-9: 4-1 Isa, 4-1 crapatrby, 3-2 vs Mantishuffle, 3-2 ALLALA 2-2 Posthuman 4-1 radli ) 2- Isa (22-6: 1-4 marcoasd, 4-1 magic9mushroom 5-0 crapatrby, 4-1 ALLALA 5-0 radli 3-0 Mister Tim) 3- Sanesti 4- SharKing (4-1: 4-1 Mantishuffle) 5- crapatrby (1-9: 1-4 marcoasd 0-5 Isa) 6- magic9mushroom (4-4: 1-4 Isa 3-0 ALLALA) 7- Posthuman (2-2: 2-2 marcoasd) 8- Mantishuffle (3-7: 2-3 marcoasd 1-4 SharKing) 9- ALLALA (9-13: 1-4 Isa 2-3 marcoasd 2-3 Mister Tim 0-3 magic9mushroom 3-1 radli) 10- shad0wtrainer 11- VallejoMC 12- Mister Tim (2-9: 2-3 ALLALA 0-3 radli 0-3 Isa) 13- radli (5-12: 3-0 Mister Tim 1-3 ALLALA 0-5 Isa 1-4 marcoasd) 14- See also www.pokemonperfect.com/forums/showthread.php?3080-Buy-your-team-RBY-OU-tournament-%28NO-WRAP%29&p=6209#post6209

I love this idea! But due to time constraints I must pass NP, I obviously hope there will be more tournaments like this

Obviously we should see how this tournament plays out, but I think Chansey should be as expensive as Tauros. Centralizing the entire metagame is no small feat.

While I don't think I'll be able to join this tournament, won't it still cause centralization of the first four? They're only 84 points total. With 16 left for two pokemon, there's plenty to potentially replace the loss of a Starmie/Alakazam. I think, rather than a buy system, you should use a say (pick 2-3 pokemon from the list), anything else not on this list may be freely used. It would create a mish-mash of OU/BL teams, but that was the point, right? To see how well certain pokemon act when not in support with others?

With 16 points you can't buy that much: maybe Gengar + Victreebel. It's possible, but there are other strategies (I'd say better ones, but the tournament/playtest has to tell us). Picking just 2-3 pokemon from the top would change too much, we're trying to see the impact on a OU-like metagame, not a BL one. We need most teams to still use the defensive things that shape the OU metagame (Chansey, Exeggutor...), to have a real feedback of the impact. "How well certain pokemon act when not in support with others" was not the main purpose, but will be of course interesting. The purpose is to find out on what the common sense is biased. IMO Kangaskhan at 1/4 Tauros' price is a good deal, even if I don't think I'm gonna make it. IMO Alakazam 5th is too high... if I have to sacrifice Chansey to use Alakazam, I'd prefer to drop something else. Somebody will. Everybody brings his opinion (team) and through diversity we see what performs well (so, underpriced=underrated)

I'll join as a sub if you can't make up the numbers

I think we can do it as a round-robin tournament. I hope it may be best of 5. In any case, coverage of the games would be great.

In. We'll get round matchups in both forums, right?
The point costs are fine; they're based off the OU Rankings thread. I don't agree with them and neither does marcoasd; that's the point.

I love you ^^ (nobody agrees, but that's the reason why we're doing this, hence it's fine) I'll post on both forums, even if nobody from the guys that are on PP forum and not here has taken part at the moment. I would've liked some opinion about the format, if it's me deciding, it's a best of 5 round robin tournament, so that we can start easily finding some opponent, and we can add new players as the thing goes on.

Personally I think RRs are the best tournaments; if we get over 10 players though it might be something of a hassle.
Best of 5 is statistically bad in an RR; you should just score by wins. 5 games for each pair is reasonable though.

Ok for 5 games for each pair.

OK, round-robin tournament, 5 games for each couple of players. Feel free to start playing the games, with no hurry obviously... It would be good to post logs/replays somewhere.
Players can be added at any time.

So I just battle everybody 5 times? Is there a particular server or channel you guys hang out on PO? Is there any restrictions on having our 5 battles at one time? Or could say have 2 one day and 3 another time etc... If so I'll just go there when I'm on PO and we can battle at convenience, If we need to battle all at once I'll probably take a couple of day to build up a few more teams
I'm GMT+0, I'll be on as CrapAtRBY

We usually meet on the main channel, the one with 1000+ users. You don't need to have them at one time. Isa: confirm, ggs, even if I was lucky.

Logs/replays would be nice, but recounts of which pokemon were used (and how frequently) would be just as good, if not better!

Confirm, and up 2-1 vs Mantishuffle. I'm going to take a quick review of the games.
EDIT: once again, Exeggutor proved to be a legit candidate for #2. Kangaskhan keeps doing well. Not great games for Dodrio and Articuno, Zapdos confirmed to be dangerous more for physicals than for Chansey, when not walled. Victrebeel was frozen; besides from that, it has potential even with Swords Dance (can sweep endgame, as Gengar should be less common in no-wrap), but it's not easy to find the right slot in a standard team (so, a confirm). Alakazam wasn't in the arena most of the time, and didn't shine as it's best used late game when (hopefully) the counters are gone.
