The Insomniac Tournament Hosted by Dexter and (co-hosted) by t3h Icy Intro: This will be RBY2K10's biggest tournament yet, where I will be putting in $20 of my own money up for grabs as the prize! For those that don't have a Paypal and/or Credit Card, something else can be arranged for you, but we'll cross that bridge when we get there. The tournament will be run as a standard OU tournament but Sleep moves are not allowed! Make sure to remove all Sleep moves from your Pokemon and be ready! Rules: -Pure RBY (no Tradebacks) -Freeze Clause -Self-KO Clause -Apply PP Ups -Battle Timeout -Mewtwo and Mew are not allowed -Duplicates of the same Pokemon are not allowed -Fissure, Guillotine and Horn Drill are not allowed -Double Team and Minimize are not allowed (Evasion Clause) -Wrap, Fire Spin, Clamp and Bind are not allowed -Spore, Sleep Powder, Hypnosis, Sing and Lovely Kiss are not allowed -For clarification, Rest is still allowed Breaking a minor rule (accidentally using wrap or a sleep move) will DQ you from the game, and you will be issued a warning. If you DQ two games within the tournament, you will also be removed from the tournament, so make sure you don't. If there are any disputes, just PM the log to me, and I will make my own judgment call on a case by case basis. However, it is in your best interest to just follow the rules, and I hope this won't become an issue. Format: This is dependent on how many entrants we get. Likely, the players will be split into Pools of 3. The 1st Seed will be placed in the Winner's Bracket, the 2nd Seed will be placed in Loser's Bracket and 3rd Seed will be eliminated, so make sure you do your best in Pools! All sets are best 2 of 3, including Pools, Brackets, and Winner's/Loser's Finals. Grand Finals is best 3 of 5. This is slightly different from previous RBY2K10 tournaments in that only the Grand Finals are best of 5. In the event of a tie in a Pool, tiebreaks will be played out as single games. In the event of all 3 players tied, it will be a redo-Pool with single games. Entrants: Hopefully we get a huge turnout for this and we can have a huge bracket. We're hoping to get at least 24 players. If you notice, that is slightly larger that the number of active members currently on RBY2K10, so we are expecting a lot of new faces! To enter, you must be registered here or else it's too much trouble for contact reasons. All regular members here are allowed, and guests must receive our permission. We will likely accept you, so long as you know how to play RBY (this is just so we don't get piles of n00bs trying for the slight shot at money). 1. t3h Icy 2. Lolita Cute 3. Posthuman 4. WaterWizard 5. Spies 6. Inf 7. Astamatitos 8. Subsmoke 9. Underboss 10. Georgie 11. Supreme Dirt 12. sabombardonist (Note, I myself will not be entering. This is to ensure an objective voice in the creating of brackets, and in the unlikely event that I will have to make a judgment call on a match) Prizes 1st place is guaranteed $20 american, scouts honor, no strings attached. In the event that more than 24 players sign up, prize money will be increased (most likely by $5 or $10). Also, 2nd place may be entitled to a small consolation prize, depending on turnout and if I'm feeling generous. EDIT (by t3h Icy): Added some points to clarify. EDIT: Added entrants

Yup, totally in.
For fairness, Dexter is making all the Pools and Brackets, and I'm only doing the visuals.

Dexter is going to contact certain players. =)
We're hoping we can get some oldschool veterans to play.

also if anyone wants to risk it, you can post a thread in smogon's indigo plateau, but there's a good chance it will end up locked for advertising :\

well, since Rest is allowed, I'm in... edit: and as i'm fairly active on Smogon, I'd rather not risk the ban. however, i will get with a few of my smogon RBY contacts...

I will be out all summer from the 27th of June. Sry. Anyway, wtf, why did you decide to ban sleep moves? With non-standard clauses you are going to find less people to join I believe.

So, it's an "Insomniac" tournament, but pokemon are still able to induce sleep on themselves via Rest and rejuvenate themselves through that sleep. The very definition of insomnia is that you have a very hard time falling asleep naturally and staying asleep. Look, I've had many a night where I felt like an insomniac, and being able to Rest was the last thing I felt I was able to do. A man-sized venus flytrap would probably have a better chance of putting me to sleep with powder than me falling asleep by myself naturally if I am an insomniac. Seriously, allowing Rest is a big break in the theme, which I assume is to have no sleep induced. So why allow it to be self induced?

the theme was to not put your opponent to sleep. IMO RBY rest is pretty broken. the name was just an afterthought, I had completely forgotten about rest. sorry if it confused you, what better name do you have in mind? god underboss, you really love to argue about pointless shit also, you should join also, lots of guests are refusing (probably because our own userbase isn't even entering), so I'm gonna aim for 18 people tops

People are refusing? Crystal's probably right about the sleep move ban pushing people away, but we did just have an OU tournament...

Call it the "I'll fall asleep when I want to bitch" tournament since the only sleep allowed will be self induced. And yeah, arguing about minutia is kinda my thing . I mean, in all reality, if you keep Rest, the only pokemon it should affect is Lapras and maybe Zapdos and Articuno and my Rest Eggy (which I will probably use just to laugh at the name of the tourney ) Well, I guess I could join if you want to me to join. Okay I'll join, but I'm on a European time schedule now so you know.

I recommend allowing sleep moves if you want to find extra unknown people. Such a big and important tournament should have standard rules imo, but anyway, I wont be here, so I don't have to worry much abaut this =P.

well to me having a theme other than OU is more important than having tons of players anyway. OU is so boringg

It's still 90% OU though, without the sleep moves. Anyway, if you wanted something really new, you could have tried an NU tourney, which I would love to see.

There are only abaut 10-12 players that know something abaut NU. You are not going to find new people that want to battle with a new tier (NU only exist here).

Our tiers are a total mess right now. Anything tier-based wouldn't work.

The problem is that with 18 players you are going to have to put byes.

Yeah I wanted to address that before: I'm not certain how nicely 18 would work. You could do 6 of 3, but then both Winner's and Loser's would have 2 Byes, and that could get messy.
16 would be 4 of 4 with 1st/2nd Seeds getting into Winner's and 3rd/4th Seeds in Loser's.
It's pretty disappointing that many of our own players aren't entering.

yeah about that, I think I'll just lower it to 12 and have a smaller tournament. Everything would work out nice and clean, and I'd only need 2 more people. Plus 12 is pretty big for an RBY2K anyway. I should have enough people by tommorow
Really sad that of the 12 or so guests I've invited, none of them seem to want to play. All I'm getting is "LOL RBY2K10", "don't have time", "i don't care about $20", or even "sure sounds great" followed by not joining and then ignoring me forever. I haven't heard a complaint about it not being standard OU. Oh well
also added georgie, even though we said not having an RBY2k10 account means you couldn't join. He told me on netbattle he wanted in, and I see him on the colosseum like every day so w/e

Yeah, 12 is OK too. 3 polls of 4 players, thirds eliminated, seconds to LB, firsts to WB.
