WaterWizard and I are always swapping music, seeing if we can find anything we both like. XD So I thought to ask everyone else too.
What genres, bands/artists, etc do you like? Also feel free to leave some Youtube links if you'd like to.

I like mainly rock/metal stuff, but most things really. Not a fan of pop and rnb really.

Pop and Rock drain me. Mostly the type of stuff you'll hear on the radio. I love Melodic Death Metal, and Melodic Metalcore. The combination of the power and energy with beautiful composition, rather than random bashing and noise. Thrash is good too. n_n Some of my current favorites: Thy SerpentWinterburstNeptuneMinushumanLazarus ADFor fans of the genres, I have tons of hard-to-find stuff, so if you're interested, PM me. ^_^

Melodic death metal's okay but I usually don't like the vocals, and those are important to me.
I like some thrash and groove though.

I like music from the Medieval period to the Impressionist period, though I particularly like the Baroque, Classical, and Romantic eras. 20th century "classical" music mostly REALLY sucks, but there is some good stuff ("some" being like ten pieces).
as for contemporary stuff, I like some folk, alternative, pop, as well as a bit of country and jazz, etc.
I am very eclectic. My Ipod has a wide variety of genres (though I don't like Rap, Metal, or R&B).
I'll link some stuff later...

If it's music from the 80s or 90s, then there's a chance I'll like it.
On my usual playlist, the most prolific artist / group is probably Mike & the Mechanics, but I do have a good mixture of stuff from the 1950s right through to this year on that playlist.

Here's a great (and maybe familiar) piano piece by Chopin, performed by Evgeny Kissin, my favorite (and the best) pianist alive! The fast scales and octaves make this such an impressive piece, and the melody is great! for a little music theory, "Polonaise" means "Polish" in french, and denotes a particular meter/rhythm. and Chopin is known for his Rubato, or slight tempo deviation mid-phrase. enjoy! www.youtube.com/watch?v=8QT7ITv9EcsAnd here's the first movement from a fantastic Mozart piano concerto. It's really amazing to me. If you're not familiar with a concerto, it's where one particular instrument is featured and plays with (or sometimes against) an orchestra. so the pianist starts his response at the 1 minute mark in this particular concerto. www.youtube.com/watch?v=pWWF7U7WD3s

I know I've heard Boston's songs (I couldn't name any though - I just know I've heard something by them at some point as I recognise the group name), while some of the Guns & roses stuff is good.

Here is an orchestral piece by Richard Wagner, the German who composed the Ride of the Valkyries. It's the Overture from the opera Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg. Written in the 19th century: www.youtube.com/watch?v=dOb2XsqYawkAnd HERE is a transcription (rewrite/adaptation) by Anthony Newman of the above composition, this time for organ! So one guy is playing what was originally for 40. Arranged in the early 1980s: www.youtube.com/watch?v=UubmRHolrXc

I'm not particularly into music, I can do fine without it... and even with it I sometimes let it drown out to white noise.
However, I do like to listen to several things.
The Planets by... someone... is very good. Mars is great, and I liked Jupiter, though I had to listen to it for a long time.
A lot of anime music I'll enjoy. The Initial D soundtrack has a lot of great stuff.
Some Chinese pop songs and K-pop songs sprinkled in.

I love the Planets! They're by Gustav Holst, a British composer from the end of the Romantic period.

I showed my friend this, because I thought she listened to Winterburst (It actually was Wintersun that she listened to, but meh) and she was very happy, so thanks Icy. =p Anyway, I listen to a LOT of different things. If we exclude bands singing in Swedish, I listen mainly to instrumental music. Ratatat is a personal favourite. Other than that I like Hendrix, Autolux, KITE, Film School, Röyksopp, Epica...a wide range of artists and bands, to put it simply.

My tastes are fairly eclectic, but Third-Wave Ska's my main bag, though I like it for its bright, horn-enhanced intensity rather than the culture associated with it. Streetlight Manifesto/Catch-22, Reel Big Fish, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, and Goldfinger are some good ones, although some Goldfinger stuff can be annoyingly preachy. There's some Spanish stuff like Ska-P, too. The Aquabats are just plain silly and, while not technically ska anymore, are always good for a chuckle. Suburban Legends are another good one: they have a much "smoother" sound than the ones listed above, except maybe for the Fish. There's plenty of others that I'd be remiss to omit, but I guess I'll be remiss and leave with a flurry of links. Streetlight Manifesto - Mephisto's CafeReel Big Fish - Take on Me (Aha cover)The Mighty Mighty Bosstones - The Impression that I getThe Planet Smashers - Retribution (This has one of the fattest horn lines I've ever heard. Omigawd.) The Toasters - Don't Let the Bastards Grind you DownGoldfinger - SupermanSuburban Legends - Bright Spring MorningThe Aquabats - Look At Me (I'm a Winner)Ska-P - Legalización
