Dear RBY2K10 members,
I'm happy to be celebrating this forum's third anniversary! t3h Icy launched RBY2K10 on ProBoards on March 3rd, 2010, and I joined shortly after midnight on the 4th (and, technically speaking, this is when it actually became a "forum"). posthuman, Nerd, Zilch, joined in the next few days along with others (such as Crystal_, Lutra, subsmoke, GGFan) who have stayed with us. Many have come and gone, and each has made an impact (who can forget Underboss and his endless tier discussions?). Since our inception, we've made somewhat of a name for ourself, helping keep the Spirit of RBY alive and influencing how the various larger communities view and treat the First Gen today (e.g. our anti-wrap campaigning and organization of the five tiers).
We've had some great tournaments over the years, and for a while we even had new and exciting tournaments every month. Zilch and I have helped make a mark by creating countless quirky metagames, many of which have been popular hits, but our OU tournaments have been the most successful. The variety of skills and style approaches each member has have helped make this community very diverse, and the steady (albeit modest) influx in members over the past three years has helped keep things moving along.
Icy and I have always had a passion for sharing RBY skills with other players, and many of our more senior members have made it a point to pass their skills along (so forgive me for not tagging everyone; there are so many great contributors to this site). Our discussions have been lively and our archives contain so much insight into the intricacies of RBY. We hope to continue producing great content that is thought-provoking and leads to a better understanding of the game and sparks new ideas for strategy and refinement.
RBYPlus is another great thing to come out of RBY2K10, and although it hasn't exactly caught on yet, we're confident that over time it will become a significant part of First Gen competitive Pokémon battling. We'll continue to perfect it on PO and eventually do more extensive advertising about it and help give it the attention it deserves. Newcomers such as Agent Syrup and lilith will no doubt be helpful in this long-term endeavor.
On our last two anniversaries, we had huge tournaments with tons of guest participation. The cash prizes were particularly exciting and drew in a lot of big players. People still contact us asking about anniversary tournaments. This year we're doing things a bit differently since our activity is not in a place that will allow for a big tournament.
We're planning a Sunday afternoon later this month (tentatively the 17th?) where everyone is invited to log onto Netbattle Supremacy and play against old pros and neophytes. We may keep track of who beats the most people and award some sort of prizes at the end of the day, but we're not sure yet. The staff will be discussing all of this a bit more and another announcement will come sometime this week so please check back.
I'm thankful for everyone who has participated in this forum over the last few years, and I'm looking forward to many more good times ahead.
Cheers,
WW
EDIT: Sorry for the rambling nature of this post... I clearly didn't outline it before I began. At least it's not as verbose as Icy's announcements.
