Hey guys, I'm pretty new here. Well basically I played RBY in school way back when it first came out and I was one of the top players at my school (jr high maybe 40 people, so not actually saying anything lol). But I haven't really played in years. Then me and some buddys came across some actual gameboy games and so we decided to we were going to destroy each other bla bla bla
I have two general issues. First off is how relevant is the stat gap between the IVs? (really hope that's the right variable) Is it worth it to catch 50+ of the same pokemon to make sure it has pretty good core stats? Also, if I remember correctly, some kid that you give a drink to gives a different TM based off of the drink. Is there anyway to get all of them, or would it require multiple games to get all of them (and are they even relelvant?)
My second issue would be team building and strategys in general. I'm not playing pokemon gurus, but we're fairly smart people who have no problem looking stuff up to get an edge. So I would like a competitive team, but more importantly would like to know why said team is good.
And if there is some link that goes over any section of this in depth feel free to throw that at me. I have no problem doing the bookwork, just need a starting point. TIA

My guide should have everything you'd ever need, but it's about the length of a short novel. =P If you want to get good fast, you should come play with us! You'll learn super fast and how the flow of battle goes. The gap between DVs is 1 point per 50 levels. So the difference between DV 0 and DV 15 is 30 points. It's quite a bit, but more importantly is Stat Experience. All Pokemon can gain this (63 points), only it takes a long while. After using all vitamins (10 of every kind), you'll have to beat the Elite Four 20 times with that Pokemon alone to max it out. It's a lot of work to say the least. Also, if you're allowed to use Rare Candies, do so. The Rare Candy myth is that your Pokemon will be weaker, but that's just because they haven't received any Stat Experience (via KOing Pokemon). When you deposit a Pokemon and withdraw it, any new points gained through Stat Experience will be added, even at Level 100. This is why sometimes when you withdraw a Pokemon, you'll notice they have seemingly a couple points of damage (which is really just new HP tacked on). I wrote a more in-depth section about this in the guide if you want to know some more, including formulas and all that jazz. Any other questions, just ask. =D

If you use the same Pokemon and battle the Elite Four a total of 20 times, you'll max out your stat experience. Wandering around the Unknown Dungeon, preferably Mewtwo's floor where you can battle strong stuff like Chansey, Rhydon and Kadabra, is also good, though be sure to bring along plenty of Full Restores and Max Elixirs.

Thanks for the replys, guys! Icy, I will definately be reading your guide (the short novel is what I was hoping for). We are allowed anything and everything. Though we'll stick to things like only 1 of each pokemon and no mew and mewtwo (though we'll probbably have plenty of matches with them just cuz we can). Actually my plan was to pick a team. Catch like 30 of each and pick the best of the bunch. Rare Candy, stat boosters, hp up & pp up then just run that team through the elite 4 a bunch (i guess 20 times a pokemon) and go from there. Hopefully only needing to level up 1 or 2 other pokemon at a time to diversify my team.
1 quick question before i devour the guide, Does the group exp item form Oak's aide count for stat exp?

Exp All does split Stat Experience, though not equally (it's the same splits from the normal experience I think).
When you start mass catching Pokemon, try to capture them at the highest level possible. At level 49 and lower, the 16 possible numbers for each stat start to overlap, and it can be tricky to tell exactly which one you have.
One trick though is HP is made up of the other 4 DVs, so if one of your Pokemon's stats happens to be on one of the overlaps (suppose Attack DV 3 through DV 5 are equal, and you're not sure which you have), you can check how it affects HP DV (so if your HP DV is 7 or less, that must mean Attack DV is 4 since when its odd, it adds 8 to the HP DV).

Or, as Nintendo Power suggests, take out a Dugtrio, have it use all of its Dig PP, deposit it in the PC and take it out. One of its stats will have magically increased!
Good ol' box trick.

One sneak trick you should do is test your team on our netbattle server before you do the training.
It'll save you time seeing what works, and you'll know the strategy before you start.
1 last note about the TMs for drinks, you can get all 3, but only 1 of each.

I'm ok with only getting one of each, that's what missingno is for. Well thanks for the advice guys, I really need to try out the Dugtiro trick. I'll try and log on some to battle with you guys as well. Should be good practice.
