We're still here! After a long year of RBY, blooming just from a small tournament, we've become a solid community and one of the few places that still have RBY alive and well. I'd like to thank all of you for making it what it is.
But enough of the mush, we're going to be running our largest tournament yet, marking our 1 year anniversary!
This will be run under standard RBY rules with no gimmicks or anything special:
-Mew and Mewtwo are banned
-All 6 Pokemon must be different
-OHKO moves (Horn Drill, Fissure, Guillotine) are banned
-Evasion moves (Double Team, Minimize) are banned
-Wrap moves (Fire Spin, Clamp, Wrap, Bind) are banned*
-Sleep, Freeze and KO Clauses
-Apply PP Ups
-Both players may change teams after each match
*Since we're expecting many players that aren't regulars here, I'm allowing a gentleman's rule that if both players agree, Wrap moves may be used. If either player disagrees, house rules stay.
This will be our largest, most competitive tournament yet, and it'd be best to have everyone seeded well and setup nicely. We'll be running Pools before a Double-Elimination Bracket. Now, while Pools are usually Round Robin, that can take awhile, especially with a large amount of people, so Pools will be Swiss.
If you don't know what Swiss Format is, it's basically players of the same scores play each other. So players that are Win, Lose, Win will be paired up, while Lose, Lose, Win will be as well, etc. Now, Pools will likely be only of 4, so you can think of it as a mini-bracket.
To put simply, you'll be in a Pool with 3 other players. (Win, Win) is 1st, (Win, Lose) is 2nd, (Lose, Win) is 3rd and (Lose, Lose) is 4th. Your seed will determine the difficulty of your bracket.
If that sounds too complex, you can read here for a better explanation.
Pool sets and Bracket sets will be best 2 of 3, and Winners' Finals, Semis, Losers' Finals, Semis, Quarters and Grand Finals will all be best 3 of 5.
If you feel intimidated by this, I'll make very user-friendly visuals and show that it's not complicated at all, once we have the number of players entering.
Also, while I very rarely DQ players or use deadlines, if you're holding the tournament up and disappear off the face of the earth, you will be DQ'd. But we understand if you're busy and simply can't, just make sure to let us know when you can play.
While we expect most of our regulars to sign-up, we're also expecting a lot of players outside of our community entering too. Smogon, ATQ and GGFan's boards should have a few entrants. We may also have a few oldschool players enter, which will be exciting to see how they fare versus our newschool generation. ;>
The last time we had a player visit, Capt'nKirby, he defeated Dexter, who was at a 20 tournament win streak, and previously we've had Spies dominate OU and UU tournaments. Hopefully we'll get some more of that here too!
With pride and glory, we're offering a few prizes as well. Our top 3 will get appropriately coloured, Gold, Silver and Bronze names on our boards, and be named as our champions of this tournament.
Kind of cheesy, and not much of an incentive?
Well how about cash prizes? WaterWizard and Posthuman together are putting $50 in the pot to be distributed to our top players in 70/20/10 percent splits ($35/$10/$5). So not only will Grand Finals be for glory, but an extra $25 never hurts. =D
We're expecting a nice turn out, hopefully at least 16, and unless we get a ridiculous amount of interest, I'm capping entrants to
