Type/s: Electric HP: 323 Attack: 278 Defense: 208 Speed: 298 Special: 278 Weaknesses: Ground (2x) Resistances: Electric, Flying (0.5) OverviewThanks to Pokemon Stadium, Raichu was given a much-needed niche as the only Electric-Type capable of OHKOing both Golem and Rhydon. In addition to Surf, Raichu's respectable offensive stats, combined with its high speed stat, allow it to compete in OU--to an extent. OU Mixed sweeper~Thunderbolt ~Surf ~Submission ~Thunder Wave/Seismic Toss/Body Slam Surf, Thunderbolt and Submission give Raichu a formidable array of type coverage in OU, 2HKOing the many Water-Types and OHKOing (on average) Golem and Rhydon. Submission isn't quite enough to 2HKO Chansey with, but 45-49% damage is nothing to scoff at either. Thunder Wave is the obvious preferred choice over Seismic Toss, but the latter is Raichu's best weapon against Exeggutor. Body Slam also has some merit, as it can both damage and paralyze incoming Chanseys. Other optionsThunder, but you'll still only 3HKO and 4HKO Snorlax respectively. It will let you 2HKO Lapras, though. Light Screen is actually pretty good against Exeggutor, but it's usually too situational to be worth it. Against Chansey, Hyper Beam is only slightly weaker than Submission. Moreover, it will hit Jynx for around 60%--just shy of a 2HKO on average after Thunderbolt. Favorable match-upsGolem and Rhydon need Raichu to be paralyzed, otherwise they're dead. Cloyster is scared of Raichu almost just as much, as Thunderbolt will take off almost 72% of his health. Even though Starmie is faster and has Thunder Wave, he loses around the same amount of health and doesn't want to stick around unless he has no choice. A switch-in when Slowbro is out will probably make him think twice about using Amnesia. Lapras, though not 2HKOd on average by Thunderbolt, will waste his talents by staying in. Besides Water-Types, Raichu resists both Zapdos' Thunderbolt and Drill Peck. CountersSnorlax is one of Raichu's biggest (no pun intended) adversaries. He only takes around 27% from Thunderbolt, and will almost always have Earthquake. Exeggutor will wall Raichu if he doesn't have Seismic Toss; but, even if he does, it's not conducive to Raichu's success because Exeggutor has Explosion and Psychic 3HKOs. Tauros is faster and can switch-in unless he's lost over 50%. Even with Submission, Chansey can switch into Thunderbolt and Surf, OHKO with Counter, and render Raichu useless with Reflect. Alakazam isn't even 3HKOd by Thunderbolt and can simply recover the damage after it paralyzes Raichu. As is evident, Raichu performs better in UU. Tbc.

Nice guide, and thanks for contributing!
What do you think of Thunder Wave, Thunderbolt, Surf, Body Slam? That would be my go-to set, but I've never really used Raichu in OU.

I would consider Submission the default over Body Slam, but that's just me.

Raichu was actually used quite a bit back when I started out. But nobody ran Submission, and being walled by Chansey every time really made me question Raichu's intrinsic merit in OU. Personally, I'd run T-Bolt/Surf/Sub/S-Toss, just to maximize my damage output.

You should probably mention bodyslam. Against raichu generally, I ideally try to cover it with Exeggutor, because of the risk of submission (until I see bodyslam at least). Bodyslam doesnt really bother eggy much, but without it it just walls you completely. And it is better to be switching into Chansey than Eggy..
Also bodyslam is still doing like 25% to Chansey, so at least you are making some kind of progress.
I have never seen bodyslam and submission but it is a good idea.
Megakick is also a plausible option. It can 2hko Chansey with a CH. I recommend sticking with bodyslam.

I did mention Body Slam. It's mostly good for paralyzing incoming Chanseys, but Submission is better (especially when you consider the possibility of a crit). You can already paralyze things with Thunder Wave, and I find that using a Pokemon like Raichu is an invitation to be as aggressive as possible, since he isn't that good in OU to begin with. Against Exeggutor it would probably only do like 17%, but I guess it's better than using Thunderbolt.

Surely the recoil from Submission on Chansey would practically kill Raichu anyway? Raichu has less than half Chansey's health after all. I've tried Raichu a couple of times, but not really enough to form a proper opinion. TBolt, TWave, Body Slam, Surf is my preferred moveset, although I can see the value of Seismic Toss against Eggy or an unknown switch-in.

I'd say that Body Slam is better, just for the Eggy switches.
Nice drawing

Yea, Submission is better. HBeam deals around 31% to Eggy and more than 50% to Zam, with almost 20% chance of CH. That's probably worth mentioning.
