393; 248; 318; 158; 258 Tier: OU Bio: Slowbro. . . an often misunderstood pokemon. The general perception is to bring him, Amnesia and pray for the best luck possible. In my opinion, Slowbro fills a very unique roll based on psychology (HOLY SHIT A SLOW BRO I NEED TO GET CHANSEY/STARMIE/SOMETHING TO EXPLODE ON THIS BITCH I BETTER SWITCH!!) For this reason, I recommend using ICE BEAM over Surf (or t wave, if you swing that way). In addition to Amnesia/sweep-being a bulky water type-he is one of the few pokemon who can SWITCH INTO AND PARALYZE Tauros. If this is all Slowbro accomplishes for you he has done more than enough. Movesets: Toby-Bro Amnesia Rest Surf Thunder Wave This is the traditional "bring in slowbro + amnesia/wave + pray for best" set. Surf is generally used to prevent yourself from being stalled out vs. the likes of chansey/starmie. Other Optoins: As suggested earlier, Ice Beam is useful to freeze common switch-ins; if you replace surf you'll be susceptible to PP-stalling and Lapras; while replacing Wave reduces his roll even further. Slowbro is an explosion/hyper beam magnet, so bring ghosts/rocks/counter.

Psychic is perfectly viable, too. It's better than against Lapras or Chansey, although PP can be a problem if you don't have a second attack.

Wait what? Using Ice beam only increases your chances of dying to a tbolt CH, nobody is pp stalling or getting pp stalling here. Ice Beam is too slow on Slowbro. Slowbro's not like Chansey, it will die much sooner to residual damage, so generally, you are not going to get a lot of Ice Beams in. And you are probably going to see paralyzed Chanseys anyway. IBeam is great vs Eggs though.
Also Cheese, Surf is better than Psychic vs Chansey: 999 Surf can 2HKO Chansey, while with Psychic you'll often have to wait for a special fall / fp.

I guess I take that back then, although psychic is still viable (and the ability to OHKO Gengar is nice seen as he can sleep, explode or get lucky with a TBolt CH).
As for Ice Beam, I don't think freezing is the way to go with Bro because you're usually on borrowed time until the CH inevitably comes. It's useful for other Slowbro's or Amnesia Lax, but neither of them are too common. I would never use Ice Beam as Slowbro's only attack. Blizzard is good if you can predict an Eggy switch in, but again I'd run Surf or Psychic too.

He's saying using Ice Beam if you want to use Slowbro for stat spreading and random freezes.
I prefer Psychic.

Don't forget, this is coming from the player who uses ICE BEAM on Rhydon for the near guaranteed egg switch-in.

Bringing this topic back up, I think that psychic (even if most will say surf is better) is still a very viable option.

Reflect is really the only move I'd ever consider over the standard; however, the problem with using it is that part of Slowbro's appeal is that he is arguably the best para spreader, as he isn't afraid of getting paralyzed himself.
I don't think Psychic has enough advantages to ever be seriously considered over Surf. For one, Slowbro can't be as aggressive: he is already down to 16 PP, and needs Alakazam or Chansey to be dead before he can sweep--otherwise the two easily stall him. Psychic might be a bit better against Chansey because a special fall will ensure a 2HKO, but PP is far more precious and there are numerous Pokemon that can switch into Psychic. In fact, a team with Starmie, Alakazam, and Chansey will shut him down pretty badly. Nonetheless, I can guess it can work, but you'd have to be more discreet. Moreover, in most cases Psychic will accomplish what Surf can anyway, making the change superficial.

^Indeed, Light Screen stalls Chansey easily. But Crystal, I said that a combination of Chansey and Alakazam stall Psychic Slowbro. On its own, Chansey can stall Slowbro until he gets a special fall. That can take one turn, or many.

My bad, I understood SURF Slowbro get stalled out. okay. Anyway, two max roll Psychics or a FP in the wrong moment and you'll be in problems.

I'd recommend using Psychic if not using Thunder Wave - a fresh Starmie will totally wall Surf Slowbro without Thunder Wave, whereas Psychic can hit a special fall and force it out.
Withdraw and Reflect are the main things to use in that slot, and they work by turning every single physical 'mon except Persian into setup bait. Reflectbro and Withdraw Slowbro (which I like to call "Tankbro") can trivially rest-loop Snorlax and set up on it, and can even rest-loop Tauros with some luck. Good if you've already removed the specialists that Slowbro will generally lure; not so good otherwise. Reflect gives an additional margin of safety because it boosts faster, while Withdraw guarantees the win in PP wars with Tanklax or an opposing Tobybro.
