Alakazam is still extremely powerful, though his role as the strongest Psychic sweeper is threatened by the advent of Mewtwo to standard play. What sets Alakazam apart is his boosted Confusion, which makes him quite a force. Recover is of course still very useful, and he can still boast that over Hypno and now Mewtwo, too. Alakazam can still stall or hit & run, however the boosting of Bugs and Ghosts means the he'll will have to play carefully.
Alakazam is similar to before, but he has new threats that could trouble him. Alakazam is now the fastest Psychic and hits hard just as before, especially with Confusion. Kinesis is an alternative to Thunder Wave that costs accuracy, but hits Grounds. Alakazam's only stat change is an Attack decrease so he can't abuse the new Submission, but it's still an option for Pokemon like Chansey. Play him in the same style, but more cautiously and against the new Fighting and Poison Pokemon. |

Alakazam - you know him by now, either you love him or you hate him. Alakazam recieves a decrease in Attack but is otherwise unchanged on the stat side, while his old standard moves work the same as previously. Kinesis and Confusion can replace Thunder Wave and Psychic if you wish. Due to the rise in power of Bug and Ghost moves as well as powerful alternatives spawning, Alakazam is no longer guaranteed to be seen in every other battle, but still remains a very powerful Pokémon.
