Ditto gets major defensive boosts to help the pre-transformation. He is so slow that he will certainly take a hit before using Transform. Fortunately his very high HP should be a huge asset in the post-transformation period. The enemy trainer must pick careful who he lets Ditto Transform into, as having someone such as Onix, Gengar, or Alakazam with 503 HP would be absolutely fearsome. With the addition of Toxic to Ditto's movepool, Ditto Dittos will no longer be a problem. Ditto will be a great team player.
Timing is everything, but if you can't hit Ditto safely, you'll have to switch. Don't forget that you can force switches with Ditto's presence and may not even need to Transform to be useful. The defensive stats support Transforming and the high HP gives you benefits of doing so. In a game where most Pokemon have tons of moves to use, it's helpful to find out exactly what they have. Ditto is super slow, but this is to prevent the opponent's from using moves on what would be good against themselves (Starmie's Thunderbolt, etc). |

Ditto is perhaps the most boosted Pokémon in RBYPlus. The change that you'll recognize first is that Ditto now learns more than just Transform - she now has access to Toxic and Poison Gas. These are mostly to avoid endless Ditto dittos, but especially Toxic can prove useful if you're up versus a staller such as Chansey or Wigglytuff. The other boost that Ditto gets is a huge increase in HP, defense and Special, but also a nerf in Speed to become the slowest Pokémon in the game. This allows Ditto to take a hit very well, while the low speed is to make sure the opponent doesn't use a move that's super effective versus itself (any Ghost with STAB, Butterfree's String Shot, and so on). Try not to transform into stallers as they can waste your 5 PP unless you're confident you can transform multiple times.
