Mewtwo gets some extreme nerfs, including the loss of Recover and all special attacks stronger than base 95. This allows him to play in standard without being too broken. He is still very fast (with a high crit rate), very bulky, and extremely powerful on both the physical and special side. He has the highest special stat in the game, so he should be able hit a lot of pokemon hard. Selfdestruct allows him to finish with dignity.
Mewtwo is nerfed enough to be legal, by losing a lot of moves, including all forms of healing. He has the highest Special still, making him a strong Special sweeper of many types. He also has Bugs and Ghosts to deal with now, and can have problems with other high Special Pokemon. |

Mewtwo gets some huge nerfs, both in the stat and the move department. Starting off with the stats, he no longer outspeeds everything, nor does he have the same ridiculously high HP and attack, and even the defense gets lowered a bit - however, he still has the highest special stat in the game (outside of Onix who can't use his offensively) by a fair margin and the highest combined stats of all Pokémon. His movepool is now very shallow - he only has one special move, Psybeam, which is a base 130 move that requires a turn for charge-up. On the physical side he still has access to useful moves like Body Slam and Submission, but you'd rather attack with special moves to abuse the absurd stat. Finally, Mewtwo has lost all means of recovery, including Rest. However, he is by far the best user of Metronome, having a splendid attack stat and super high Special. If you get lucky, your opponent could take a STAB Confusion in the face, which WILL hurt badly. Mewtwo still needs to watch out for Bugs and Ghosts as they will dent him badly, and general walls that'll recover off the damage dealt and kill Mewtwo with chip damage.
