RBY2K10
2nd Anniversary Tournament
2nd Anniversary Tournament
Introduction
We're back for another colossal tournament of RBY! This March marks our second anniversary at RBY2K10, and things are bigger and better! Entrants should be prepared for the very best; they'll be up against our finest players as well as many powerful adversaries from Antiquity, Smogon, and the rest of the world of competitive Pokémon! Expect to see huge clashes in intense battles!
Last year, we had our regulars split up the top spots almost evenly with our guests, albeit 1st and 3rd over 2nd and 4th taken by guests. We had many exciting sets, and we're hoping to do it all over again! We did have some problems running the tournament and some small things that could have been done better, so more care and preparations have been put in this time to get a much more smooth event.
Rules
This will be an OU tournament with no gimmicks or anything special:
-Mew and Mewtwo are banned
-All 6 Pokemon must be different
-OHKO moves (Horn Drill, Fissure, Guillotine) are banned
-Evasion moves (Double Team, Minimize) are banned
-Wrapping moves (Bind, Clamp, Fire Spin, Wrap) are banned (*)
-Sleep, Freeze and Self-KO Clauses
-Apply PP Ups
-Both players may change teams after each game
*As some of our participants are guests from other communities where Wrapping moves are legal, Wrapping moves may be used if both players agree. However, if either player disagrees with this exception, then Wrapping moves remain banned by default. For those who agree to allow Wrap moves for their set, we strongly suggest that you clarify if the rule applies to the entire set or just a particular game. To avoid any confusion, it may be wise to declare again immediately prior to the start of a match that Wrapping is indeed permitted for the battle. Remember, the default is a ban on Wrapping moves, so any disagreement reverts back to the house rules.
Breaking any rules forfeits the game (but not the set), unless the opponent is fine with just restarting.
Matches are to take place on Netbattle Supremacy, and not Pokemon Online (this is a tournament for RBY, not Stadium). If anyone doesn't have Netbattle, it can be downloaded here, and if anyone is unfamiliar with using it, make sure it's working before the tournament actually starts. We can help too, so feel free to ask!
Format
The tournament will be a double-elimination bracket, with random placements, but sorted randomly based on community location (RBY2K10, Smogon, Antiquity, etc), so that players from the same communities will be spread out.
If the total number of players requires that we have some Byes for the first round, proportions of Byes will be based on percentages of each community entering. In other words, if 50% of the entrants are from RBY2K10, then 50% of the Byes go to players of that community, and if 25% of the entrants are from Smogon, then 25% of the Byes go to Smogon players, etc. Who exactly receives the Byes of each community will be random, except RBY2K10 players, which will be based on OU tournament results.
Tournament sets will be best 2 of 3 games in Winners' Bracket Round 1 and Losers' Bracket Round 1. Beyond those sets up to Grand Finals will be best 3 of 5 games.
For organizational purposes and a clear visual, I'll make a detailed graphic of the bracket once it's created. The full bracket will be viewable, rather than just pairing people up each round for more of a free-flow with tournament sets and so everyone knows who is ahead of them, in the case of any disputes.
Courtesies
-If you are spectating a tournament set, don't be giving advice or help to either player to influence the game. If you're asked to not to watch, please leave spectating.
-After each tournament set, post the results. All we ask is for who won and the set count (3-2, 3-0, etc), but feel free to post more details if you want.
-If you are suddenly busy, just keep in contact with us and let us know you haven't just disappeared, or you'll otherwise be DQ'd.
-Don't cheat in any way, shape or form. If you're caught cheating, you'll be removed from the tournament immediately and banned from future events here.
Prizes
This tournament will have a $100 cash prize pot, split up to $60 for 1st place, $30 for 2nd place and $10 for 3rd place!
Yes, you read that right! THERE'S ONE HUNDRED USD UP FOR GRABS!
For our top three winners, you can get into contact with WaterWizard and Dexter after the tournament to collect your prizes. We plan to disburse the prizes through Paypal, but an alternative may be negotiated if necessary.
If you see WaterWizard and Dexter, give them a big thanks for donating to the tournament!
Entrants
We're not entirely sure exactly how many players we'll get, but there is no cap for this tournament, so we'll take everyone that wants to join. Sign-ups will be open from February 15th to February 22nd.
We're really hoping it gets completely chaotic and we get a ton of players, but if this turns out to be a smaller tournament by chance, that's no problem either, and it will be a good show in any case!
