Hey guys, so this will be the last announcement about our colossal tournament before it actually happens! WaterWizard, myself and the rest of the staff have figured everything out now, so we're pretty much set to go!
First of all, most people I talked with and those that posted here were not in favor of the hand-made bracket idea, so that won't be happening. I will however still separate players based on community since that is much more objective than skill and fortunately, Tio's superb bracket maker can do that. The main reason to spread out players of the same community is so everyone gets a chance to play someone new, rather than those they're used to facing, and it's always more exciting to see different communities clash in tournament. Everything else will be randomized.
Second, the cash prize will be $100! This will be split up to $60/$30/$10 for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places, so we'll have an extra $30 on the line for Grand Finals this year, and make fighting for it much more worthwhile! Last year we did $50 in splits of 35/10/5, so this year will have a lot more, and 1st place will be winning more than the entire pot previously! Big thanks to WaterWizard and Dexter donating $50 each for this, make sure to let them know they're appreciated if you see them around! =D
For those that place top 3, get into contact with them after the tournament to sort out your prizes. Ideally paypal will be used, but, if you talk with the donors, something else could be negotiated.
And third just to repeat what's been said before for players just reading about this now, tournament sets will be best 2 of 3 in the first round of Winners' and Losers' brackets, and then best 3 of 5 beyond that. This is to reduce some of the luck of the game, as RBY is fairly luck-based in nature. We are also playing with Wrapping moves (Wrap, Bind, Clamp, Fire Spin) banned by default, but we're expecting players outside of RBY2K10, so if both players agree, they are allowed. If either players disagrees, Wrapping moves are banned.
Sign-ups will be open on February 15th, to give us enough time to get things set to go and get everyone here. Spread the word about the tournament, as we want to make this the greatest RBY tournament in a long time, and we want everyone to join! Everyone from all sorts of communities all here in one giant battle! The 2K10 staff and I will be helping out too in letting everyone know. We're going to try to get all of the best RBY players from everywhere, and for fun, we'll try to get some oldschool legends to come too! We'll see what happens, but I assure you that you'll need to be on your A-game as we'll certainly have a lot of A-list players in this showdown!
