Dear friends of RBY2K10,
As many of you know, last week I teased the possibility of a memoir about my tenure in the Pokemon community; ever since then, I've been receiving overwhelmingly positive messages and emails from people encouraging me to pursue this project. To be honest, I wanted to wait until next year before I even thought about the idea of a memoir, but I've decided to get a preemptive start on something that will be the first memoir of its kind.
The title of my memoir will be "The Kid Champion," but please keep in mind that this is a tentative title. I've given it this name so far because the memoir will obviously start with my debut and early years, in which I was but a young, ambitious teenager not even out of high school. However, as a teenager, I had already earned a reputation as one of the best players in the world, earned the enmity of people twice my age, and was a major part of several eras in the history of competitive Pokemon. Needless to say, I am very excited about this project and hope to keep you updated as I progress.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to write to me here, at THE Alternative, or via email at GGFanHappyLegend@gmail.com. As always, I thank you for your unwavering support throughout the years--it's partially why I've decided to do this!
Be great, GGFan

You'd be a lot more respected if you weren't so vain, GGFan.

David the Chansey, your irreverence disgusts me; however, because I'm your mentor, I forgive you.
I don't see how a narcissistic mushroom can call me vain just because I've decided to write about my Pokemon career. Also, I am very respected.

Without confirming or denying, may I ask why you use that adjective?

Interesting project. I've always been curious about the early period of competitive Pokemon.

I second what Posthuman said.
It always seems like a vague and mythical time whenever I hear about it!

Interesting project. I've always been curious about the early period of competitive Pokemon. Being that I'm about as old as it gets nowadays, I'll fill you in a bit. It was pretty good, all in all. Everything was new, people were still experimenting with movesets, Nintendo had it's own competition. After that golden period, there were still a few communities around with some truly great players (Vineon, Nitro, Hipmonlee, Shuveit, Fish) but it was a dying game even then, really. When GSC came out, few people played RBY on a recreational basis anymore, mainly waiting for tournaments to spring up every so often. These tournaments could take months to complete. And back then all we had was the PBS, well two: KK's Pokemon Battle Simulator (before it went down) and Azureheights's Porygon's Big Show (the chat room there only worked if you had an Azureheights account, and then it went down). These could be pretty glitchy and slow, but for a long while it was all we had. It was only rarely that you could just pop in and actually get a match. Most of the time it was barren of players. Even when people started battling text-based on IRC, RBY didn't have a ladder. You guys really should appreciate the PO ladder more. I think if we'd a ladder 11 or 12 years ago, the game wouldn't have died so horribly as it did. IBTs (Interboard Tourneys) were quite fun, gave people the opportunity to dust off a little of the old board patriotism (Go Azure! and whatnot), but I don't know what happened after about 2004.

You forgot about Marble Palace's simulator. I would say it was the best of the three, but the problem was that it didn't work very often.
