February is a short month, and we're doing a short tournament. Icy is planning a big competition for March, so he's left February to me. I've recruited Zilch, my partner in all-things-themed, to help come up with something new and fun, and this is what we've decided:
February Mini-Tournament: No STAB!
Format Single Elimination. Best 2 of 3. Grand finals 3/5. Brackets will arrive shortly.
Rules
- You may NOT use STAB offense! - Stabbed Utility Moves are still allowed! (Recover, ThunderWave, LeechSeed, etc) - No Ghosts! (no shadows this Groundhog Day) - No Chansey! (it's not Easter yet...) - No Amnesia on OU monsters! (Slowbro/Snorlax are fat) - Mimic is allowed! So you can obtain a STAB move in this manner! - Moves with set damage are allowed (SeismicToss, PsyWave, etc) - Counter is allowed!
[/b]And the usual...
- Mew & Mewtwo are banned. - Species, Sleep, Freeze, Self-KO, Evasion, and OHKO clauses are in effect. - Wrap moves (Wrap, Bind, Clamp, Fire Spin) are banned. - Both players may change teams after each battle.
Entrants
1. WaterWizard 2. Zilch 3. t3h Icy 4. LucasBM 5. GGFan 6. DragonAura 7. Garrin Red 8. Consumptus 9. Brookman 10. Subsmoke

Is Amnesia fine on BL or lower Pokemon such as Golduck?

Might want to add this to the rule list, WW: If you use Mimic to obtain a STAB move, it is perfectly legal. You just can't have a STAB move as one of your four initial moveslots.
Seismic Toss on Fighting types is still okay since that's technically not a STAB move, as are Psywave, SonicBoom, and Dragon Rage on their respective types (though why you would want to use these moves is a mystery).

So why is it always so messy after he uses Selfdestruct?

I don't know, to be honest. I'd have to try and do some testing with that tonight hopefully. The point of banning Gengar is because of his immunity to Normal moves, something you see a lot of without STAB, and special moves without STAB don't do much to him due to his high special. Add in Hypnosis, Explosion, and his host of standard un-STABbed moves and you have something that's too good. Haunter's special and defense might be low enough to warrant him being legal, though.

As fas as I can guess I think that what will probably dominate is boltbeam (think of Starmie), with maybe submission in some pokes like DNite and Nidoking to deal with Snorlax/Porygon. Normal moves would still be on things like (Blizzard) Kingler

I guess I can make this my first tournament, unless the bracket is already established.

This, lol. You sure you want to do Round Robin still? With 10 so far that's already 45 sets.

Round Robin would be a maximum of 27 matches each, potentially 14...
However, I'm open to other SIMPLE formats. None of that pools stuff.
Single elimination 2/3s and 3/5s could work, like the Ubers format...

14-27 per PERSON. Every person would do 9 sets, totaling 10, but that would count X vs Y and Y vs X as separate, so you divide by 2. 45.
But yeah, the format used in Ubers could work or whatever you guys come up with.

Why not just single elimination?

Post by LucasBM on Feb 4, 2011 8:13:44 GMT -8
I would prefer double-elimination.

Mini tournaments aren't meant to be double elimination, though.

I prefer double elimination too, but not for a mini-tournament.
I'm fine with the single elimination system. I'll set it up. Quicker than round robin.
