Yo guys. Alright so for a while I've been wanting to do a tourney called a neapolitan where the idea is you have to use pokemon from higher and lower tiers in your team. So lets go over the details here. Which tiers should we use? I was thinking OU, BL and UU, 2 pokemon from each.
Should any pokemon be banned? A few people suggested Tauros and Chansey might need to be banned for being too powerful. Personally I don't agree because many of the lower tier pokemon are pretty good but just have a bad movepool or typing. Like Pinsir I think could wreck Tauros and Chansey even though it's UU. Also if you ban Chansey then you have Alakazam to worry about. Ban Tauros and you have Persian. See? So I wouldn't really ban anything. Tell me what you guys think.

I think everything is counterable. Remember, if you have both Chansey and Tauros on a team, you don't have any other OU options, and with the lack of powerful Psychics (except for Hypno), a lot of the good Pokemon in the lower tiers can dominate, such as Victreebel, Venomoth and Machamp.
Tauros has a 'counter' in each tier (Articuno, Cloyster, Kingler), and Chansey has Physical problems as always. The thing is, since the rest of the team that usually auto-counters Chansey's problems are gone, Chansey is an easy target. Pinsir, Kingler, Machamp, Kangaskhan, Muk and others can take out Chansey with ease, and getting them in would be much simpler.
Personally, I think Alakazam is a much better choice over Chansey in this environment, and while I'd lean on Tauros, counters for Zapdos, Jolteon and Persian may disappear as well, and may make them appealing.
Also (though I likely can't participate), I'd suggest either 2 of each of OU/BL/(UU/NU), or 1 OU, 2 BL, 2 UU, 1 NU.

I like the 2/2/2.

2/2/2 sounds fun. I wouldn't think any pokemon need to be banned as a lot of the lower tier pokemon should become more viable counters in this environment.
But this is just my perspective coming from my limited experience (as I still haven't battled anyone yet).

or 1 OU, 2 BL, 2 UU, 1 NU. This sounds more interesting. ~ Aether Nexus

The original 2/2/2 format came from before we had the NU tier, but yeah, I can see how 1/2/2/1 would be pretty interesting.
Then again, if we're using the neapolitan ice cream comparison, this would be chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, and what mysterious fourth flavour? Pistachio?

NU pokemon are not viable against OUs and most BLs. I'm in favor of the standard Chocolate, Vanilla, & Strawberry.

Yeah, I was thinking the same, though you have the NUs like Omastar and Machamp who can still pull a thing or two, they're way too situational. Omastar gets massacred by electrics and grasses, while Machamp is just too slow and has to rely on the icky Submission for STAB damage.
I'd go for the old 2/2/2 style. UUs can get the drop on OUs, especially stuff like Vaporeon, Golduck, Kingler, and Pinsir (notice an abudance of water types?). Even Electabuzz could be useful if you want an electric but don't want to burn an OU spot with Jolteon or Zapdos, or if you're not a fan of the hit-and-miss Raichu.

I agree 2/2/2 is probably the best method. Also I'll be able to join this.
Subsmoke, would you like to run it your way? If you're unable to, I could.

Yeah I was just waiting for you to get your NB running. We're gonna do this 2/2/2 style, 8 player single elim.

Host it whenever you're ready. =)
EDIT: Also don't forget to specify rules clearly so we don't have any disputes, such as is having 1/3/2 allowed if a player chooses to use an extra BL, etc.
