Zilch was being Zilch, and as usual he was playing gimmick teams. He thought up a new one, Playing with pokes with under 298 non-hp Stat. Now Jynx, Lapras instantly spring to mind and Zilch and WW agreed to ban OU's. Thus, a new RBY game was created!
Because of the 298 limit, Pokemon who dominated this themed RBY are usually the sweepers. Lack of reliable healing and low defense stats usually means damage is permanent.
Mr. Mime - The Alakazam of this game. Loses Recover for Tbolt and you can get funky with Counter or Barrier. Barrier is probably the superior choice though.
Porygon - Suprisingly good. Extreme versatility and the lack of the power of the OU's STAB moves allows him to Recover decently.
Raichu - Another great Special sweeper who also has an amazing Body Slam. 298 speed as well.
Kangaskhan - Tauros. A key difference though between Tauros/Zam and Kanga/Mime, is that it ties Mr. Mime in speed, though beware Twave.
Swords Dance/Amnesia - Definitely worth a shot. They play similairly to UU and BL, where when set up you usually lose at least 1 or 2 pokes to it.
Nidoking - I believe only Zilch played the King, but I was thinking it over, and he's an amazing mixed sweeper. Hurts on both sides of the spectrum and can come in on the common Thunderbolt. There are very few pokes with Ice Beam, and it only works in Nidoking's favor. That Psychic weakness is still there.
As for actual pace and gameplay, I feel me, WW, and Zilch all tried to paralyze as much as possible earlygame. Late sleepers were common in our games. Finally, it usually boiled down to Kanga/Raichu/Mime sweeping. Lots of Raichu vs Raichu where it came down to a FP or Body Slam crit. I felt the lack of reliable healing lead to always trying to be on the offensive. Not many things can wall a pokemon. Even things with resistances die very easily.
All in all, it was a fun hour(?) or so. Interesting theme and definitely a refreshing break from OU.
