We have a solid community and it has all the links and posts to information, but we don't have many actual PLAYERS at the moment.
Currently, the people that are at least semi-active are myself, Brookman, Crystal, WaterWizard, Zilch, Posthuman (on the board anyway), SubSmoke (?) and a few others that are either non-competitive or only visit the boards.
I think that we would could generate more interest in playing as frequently as our community had before and perhaps stumble on some new tricks, find new cool people, etc. I'd like to see some new faces to replace many of the people that have disappeared or have become very inactive (such as Underboss, Nerd and GGFan).
Our most recent active members including Brookman, Coletrain and Pocket (though inactive for a long while still) have brought back the interest in our older players, participated in our small tournaments and Brookman is introducing more new people here. If we could gain additional members, our community could really bloom.
One of the main things is that since our site's main goal is to push the RBY metagame as far as possible, and with very energetic players and many thinkers, we've gotten to the point where we don't have much to do. So what can we do to keep the interest of new players? Well, we always have tournaments but it seems that most people aren't super competitive in striving to be at the top. We do have multiple gimmicky 'metagames' that we play, but could that be more of a sign of boredom? However, we do have Project RBYPlus which I think could draw in a large crowd if it works out well. That has to wait until a new RBY simulator is out though, but that could come soon.
So what I ask of you folks is, what do you think could help expand our place, what would keep new members interested in staying and do you have people to suggest RBY to?
Feedback is more than welcome. =)

You could always try setting up a link exchange type of thing with other boards. One I go to occasionally that's also always wanting more posters is www.zenfa.net - it's been going downhill activity-wise recently, to the point that it's going to be redone soon. Even so, I'm sure that they'd welcome extra traffic, and the users there would probably visit here. I'll post there to see what Bloodix thinks if you're up for it.

I do not think that any of this forum is interested in competitive RBY...

I'll put a mention over there and see if you get any traffic at all anyway. I know some of the people do play the Pokemon games.

Yo I'm still here.
Honestly I don't think there are many ways we could get new people here. Maybe put our forum in your sig on smogon if you hang out over there. If they added RBY to shoddy battle there'd prob be a ton of new players.

The only problem to that is they might see this as a rival board, as this one is also focused on competitive battling, albeit for the generations they've largely decided don't matter (despite Smogon being created as a G/S/C board...)

Yeah, that's why I don't risk advertising on Smogon. The easiest way of find RBY players on Smogon is by seeing the groups that are involved with RBY. I know many RBY players from Smogon way before I met WW or anyone else who posted as well in the Indigo section on Smogon.
Also, just to toss in my 2 cents, I think why we don't have much attention to the site is because there is nothing that really brings in people to play RBY other than curiosity of this generations battling. Icy, I suggest you write an article and make it a Global Announcement or something like that to state why said person reading said article should play RBY and reasons of why to get involved in it. Lots of people think that the RBY metagame is limited and repetitive due to the opponent having basically the same team members, so we just have to change their thoughts of RBY and get them wanting to play RBY without the curiosity bit.
Also, since NBS and some other not-so-popular RBY simulators are the only simulators that allow RBY play, etc., and I think that when the new simulators such as PokeLab, Pokemon Online, etc., do manage to one day add these older generations into their programs, then it will catch the interest of more newer generation playing people.

Well lets go to Smogon and advertise our NBS server, as its not a site per se, it should be allowed? Then we advertise the site on the server.

The only way to get Smogon people is to PM those who ask questions about RBY. That's how I've gotten a lot of Smogon people to join over the past year, and it's really the only way without getting banned. Trust me, any advertisement on the forums will lead to a soft/hard ban.
RBY/GSC to PO will help things out a lot. That should be happening by Easter at the latest; perhaps even by Groundhog Day or sooner.
And remember, it's not just advertisement. It's also board activity. We could invite a million people, but if we have nothing to show for it, it's pointless. We have really decreased our active threads and also tournament participation. This is expected as the board loses its novelty and also as our lives get busier, but some semblance of life is required to attract new members.
What we all can do is log into the Casino and Smogon about once a week (or as often as you can) and just spread the word. Have your RBY team out on NBS and ask if anyone wants to play you. Then link the board if they play a round or two. Say it's the only active community for RBY. If you see someone ask a question on Smogon, PM them, answer their question, and then invite them to OUR forum.
In reality, all we can hope for is a decent maintenance of our numbers until RBY is patched to the popular simulators. Slow and steady wins the race...

True, those are good points, WW. I see how you want to do it -- get in as members as we can for now, then when PO or PL gets older generation play added, we'll have a community ready for it.
To me, since we're an RBY board, we need something that separates us from the rest of the sites that always have the older generation sections. Much like how when people have questions on Smogon, we usually link them to the on-site RBY guides, even though they're not the latest information nor that up-to-date, but they've been working on their on-site analysis' and possibly someone sometime soon will be making new on-site articles for the RBY section once PokeLab gains older generation play.
We can gain new members, great, but the thing is they will most likely have questions once on here -- this generation arises many questions and even though we have threads full of info, we should have a section to compile all those for the new members. This would also help because when they ask a question that can be answered through a thread with that information, we simply link them. If they respond more, and/or more in-depth questions, we reply with more in-depth answers.

Well we've certainly gained some new people this past month. Despite our major lack of activity at the moment, you guys (Consumptus, DragonAura) stick around. =)
