Yeah, but that's not too common. Sing Chansey can screw you over in a bunch of other ways too if you aren't expecting it (sleeping your Chansey).

I'd be in a bad mood if I let my Starmie fall asleep the first turn of the game. She's too valuable to risk the sleep.

For your team, maybe. A leading Starmie can definitely throw off your opponent though. A Chansey switch would obviously be a problem, but it might allow you to avoid sleep for the remainder of the game (unless of course the Chansey has Sing).
EDIT: You can also predict the Chansey switch and go Tauros/Snorlax, but it's risky.
In my opinion, neither Alakazam nor Starmie are great leads. They can be switched into pretty easily, and it's likely your opponent will get another chance to put something of yours to sleep later on.

I've been trying a new lead lately and so far I've had nothing but success.
Starmie - Psychic, Ice Beam, Light Screen, Recover
Basically Starmie is used for dealing with Gengar as usual, but often the switch-in is Chansey. However, Starmie is equipped with the tools to handle Chansey. With Light Screen, you either force Chansey to try freezing back (typical freeze war), or if Chansey uses Thunderbolt, Chansey has to get a Critical Hit to KO, which is about as likely as Starmie freezing.
On top, Thunderbolt is usually Starmie's least used Special move, and you can still handle an opposing Starmie or Lapras by piercing Special or freezing Starmie. Light Screen can keep you alive against Thunderbolts, so long as they don't get Criticals (and even then if you're at full health, you can sometimes take it).
Not to mention this whole setup leaves you with a Sleeper for later.
What do you guys think?

It is nice, and can surprise Chansey. Another Starmie can be a problem, and Kinesis Alakazam as well, not to mention the occasional Amnesialax. Exeggutor can still sleep you as it can take an IB. It can be quite good, however, and is an OK experiment if you can avoid CHs.

I like it. I'm going to try it out.

You could also try Hyper Beam on Starmie if you want a way of dealing with Chansey: a critical will hit for over 500 damage.

I've been using LS Starmie for about three weeks now, and I love it! I use Surf, Blizzard, LS, and Recover.

If I were to run a lead Starmie, what're the different options? Psychic to counter Gengar, Recover, and then what? Surf/Blizzard/Ice Beam/Light Screen/Twave? I use Thunder Wave and Blizzard but I have a lot of problems against Jynx and Alakazam leads with a Starmie lead.

I run Psychic/Ice Beam (but it should probably be Blizzard, really)/Thunder Wave/Recover.
Psychic for Gengar, Ice Beam/Blizzard for Eggy, Thunder Wave for Alakazam/Jynx (Thunderbolt won't do anything serious to Jynx, Surf is an option but then you have a weird moveset). Recover for Recover.
