Just so we get it all in one place, anything relating to the 5th generation Pokemon games goes in here.

Doesn't look too appealing to either of us.

yeah looks terrible. but everyone is talking about it. there were 1400 people viewing the Uncharted Territory forum (Black & White) on Smogon yesterday all at once... that's insane!

Well, the Pokemon don't much look like Pokemon, but that's what I said when I got to see all the 4th gen. Pokemon as well. Guess I just have to get use to seeing them like I did with the 4th gen. Pokemon. The battle music isn't all that good and sounds like 4th gen's music but just in reverse.
New abilities, new learned abilities, new Pokemon, new moves, triple battles, and a whole bunch of new stuff. These games are just worth checking out to see all the new stuff they've introduced. I wonder what this metagame will be like and will it ban the 4th generation banned Pokemon (Garchomp/Salamence)? I don't think so. I think Garchomp and Salamence should be able to be defeated pretty decently with these new Pokemon floating around. I'd also like to see Manaphy and all those re-tested with the new Pokemon and see how things go.

yeah should be very different and pretty interesting/involved. the pokemon all look so dumb. so do many of the 4th gen pokes, but these are even more "fake/eastern/synthetic/" etc. the first two generations have more natural creatures...

That's because they were more planned out. Satoshi Tajiri had to just on-the-spot come up with these, but of course over some time and not in a weekend or something. Though, I do agree, most do look pretty non-Pokemon-ish, but whatever. It's hard to retain 'that' Pokemon look with new Pokemon. I mean, the original 151 Pokemon will never look fake, not because we grew up seeing them all the time but because, as you said, they have that 'natural' Pokemon look. I guess gen 2 Pokemon do as well, but they put more effort into the designs back then IMO. As much as I loved R/S/E versions, that's when Pokemon stopped looking like Pokemon. I again admit that some 4th gen Pokemon do look like Pokemon, but mainly Pokemon that gain evolutions from previous 1st/2nd gen monsters, like Magnezone. From what I've seen in the list of all the new Pokemon, by far the new turtle Pokemon looks bitchin'. I've always wanted a real turtle looking type of Pokemon (Squirtle line does not count -- Blastoise a little, though). As for now, I've been checking out the new items and seeing what new stuff they add into the games. I really enjoy when they make new generations, not for the battling purposes, but I really love playing the new games for what they've added into the games, and to see the new ideas they've implanted into the games, the new enemies, etc. I like seeing the new abilities, new moves, new items, new areas, new features, etc. I'm less of a competitive player when it comes to the Pokemon games; I really enjoy playing the game, even though in-game sets suck and if you try to use battling sets, then it's too easy/serious. Edit: Also, what I really dislike so far that I know of, is that they gave no previous Pokemon any new evolutions. At least generation 4 gave some Pokemon much needed evolutions. I mean, it would have been nice to see Mawile or something that's never heard of/seen in battle videos that really need an upgrade or at least an evolution. Oh and also, the Rotom formes are no longer Ghost-type, they have dual typing types now (for example: Rotom-H is Electric/Ghost-type, but now it is Electric/Fire-type, giving it dual STAB for the special move they obtain when changing into their type of forme). ~ Aether Nexus

Also, why the heck is there yet another Fire/Fighting starter? That makes three gens in a row now!

Also, why the heck is there yet another Fire/Fighting starter? That makes three gens in a row now! Agreed; that was a big disappointment. Its evolutions don't even look that great. Unless it has something better to do over what Infernape can do, then I don't see this things usage to rise at all. Maybe in the beginning because people want to try all the new Pokemon out, but after some time, this will probably go into BL or lower. They were creative to add new features and whatnot to the games, but lacked the most important thing: a change for the beginning Pokemon to choose. I think they could have been way more creative with these. I wonder what it would have been like if they weren't the usual Water/Fire/Grass-type to choose. People always make fake ROM versions of games with different starter Pokemon or even fake ones, so it seems people wanted something different to choose from in the beginning of their Pokemon journey rather the same choices we've had since RB. Though, getting Pikachu in Yellow was cool, but that game was very different from every other Pokemon game (fighting Jessie & James rather non-important Rocket grunts, etc). ~ Aether Nexus

2nd generation complements 1st 3rd was enough if not too much 4th was TOO much and the 5th..., 5th!!!... what do they want 60000 pokes? What we just need for a Pokemon game is a new GSC game (with the same sprites and aspect) that is even better than Gld/Slv/Crl. New games suck and their pokemon are an overcrowding.

GSC was a fantastic generation as far as in-game goes. The competitive metagame is meh... As for the "naturalness" of the first and second generations, I meanly mean that they are based off of animals we find on planet earth or in well known myths. The more and more pokemon that are added, the more outrageous the pokemon get (there is a new evolution family based off of ice cream scoops). some examples: veekun.com:81/dex/media/black-white/579.png veekun.com:81/dex/media/black-white/598.png veekun.com:81/dex/media/black-white/555-blue.png Here is the list... There are a couple cool pokes that are more natural, but much of this is just absurdity. veekun.com/dex/pokemon/search?sort=evolution-chain&introduced_in=5

I'm liking 5th gen very, VERY much. I guess I'm on my own with that though.
