The explosion factor adds that extra psychological jumpiness to your opponent that Rhydon doesn't have, so you can sometimes catch Gengar on the switch with EQ, which is lovely for Persian-based teams.

crystal uses it, spies uses it, both great OU battlers. I myself wouldn't be against using it, I just haven't built a team with it that has good enough synergy to use it over golem
2 people is less than I expected after eliciting a response from Rhydon users.
Rhydon can beat a non-Surfing Starmie on the switch. Once Eggy is out of the way, no one is safe switching into Rhydon.
EQ doesn't 2HKO on average, however, so this is being a little bit too biased. Also, Golem's EQ really isn't that much weaker than Rhydon's: the most significant advantage that I can think of off-hand is that Rhydon 2HKOs on Chansey on average, whereas Golem can't. And I can name a few Pokemon who can switch into Rhydon: Tauros, Articuno (Earthquake), Lapras (Earthquake), Kangaskhan, and Venusaur to name a few.

I don't use Rhydon, but my statement about a team whose Eggy has died being very Rhydon weak is certainly true. Everyone comes in for about 40-51% damage.
Still, I prefer the Explosion factor.
